5 Ways to Attract New Business with Local SEO

As you know we are all about helping small businesses maximise their marketing budgets here at Well + Fresh.  Today we’re talking about how to attract new business with Local SEO – one of our favourite topics. And since we all love a good list we’re giving you 5 good reasons to put Local SEO at the top of your priority list in 2017.

1. Local Searches Lead 50% Of Mobile Visitors To Visit Stores Within One Day

Want more people through your door tomorrow? Google’s research into local search behavior reveals that local searchers are poised to take action. According to their findings, “50% of consumers who conducted a local search on their smartphone visited a store within a day, and 34% who searched on computer/tablet did the same.” This means ranking in local search has a direct impact on in-store traffic.

Top Tips:

  • Get your business listed on Google My Business, and make sure your profile is complete.
  • Make sure your NAP (name, address, phone number) is consistent across all channels. This includes your website, social media profiles, review sites and directory listings.
  • Use local keywords in your URLs, heading tags, title tags and content, where appropriate.

2. More Than 60% Of Consumers Have Used Local Information In Ads

In the same study, Google found that consumers have a clear preference when it comes to having ads customised to their surroundings. In fact:

  • 67% of smartphone users prefer adverts customised by city and postcode and 61% prefer adverts customised to their immediate surroundings.
  • 61% use the address or phone number in the advert.
  • 68% use the “Get Directions” or “Call” buttons.

Top Tip:

When targeting your ads for local clients, target by location and use location extensions. Be sure that your business information is consistent across all of your listings – particularly your Google My Business settings.

3. 88% Of Consumers Trust Online Reviews As Much As Personal Recommendations

Local businesses often rely on word of mouth marketing – and in many cases this does work to attract new business. But don’t limit your word of mouth marketing to just in-person! Consumers are increasingly turning to online sources for recommendations – and not just Google (though of course that is a big one). Particularly in niche industries it’s important to have good reviews on the major platforms.

Top Tip:

  • Make reviews accessible on multiple platforms for your clients so they are able to leave a review on their preferred medium. You can use Google and other social media sites like Facebook as well as the larger directories.
  • You can embed links for clients to review you on external sites from your website. You can also include links in your emails and newsletters.

4. Local Searchers are Most Often Looking for Business Address and Location

Key contact information needs to be easily accessible to your website visitors and on any external profiles. Consumers are increasingly fickle when it comes to having to search around for information so make it easy for them to find you with just one click. This is most relevant when it comes to visitors who are accessing your mobile site – so keep the key information clear and link to additional content as relevant.

Top Tip:

  • Have your key business contact information in text in the footer of your website.
  • Include click to call and one click email links when possible.
  • It’s useful to have driving directions and/or location information (nearest tube, station etc) when possible for those who might not be familiar with the area.

5. 18% Of Local Mobile Searches Lead To A Sale Within One Day

Our first point was on how many people local search can drive into your business within a day but now you see how many of those will turn into actual clients. Google found that one in three smartphone searches occurred immediately before a consumer visit – and 15% of those in-store activities involved a product or cost comparison. In other words, the local search market are people who are already interested in buying your product or service – all you need to do is be able to be found by them!
